Is descriptively more accurate to say: " He is 178 centimetres tall" or " The distance from the bottom of his feet to the top of his head is 178 centimetres tall"?

He is ... tall. Not The distance ... is tall.

Leave out "tall" at the end of the second one.

He is 178 centimetres tall.
The distance from the bottom of his feet to the top of his head is 178 centimetres.

They are equally accurate, but the second would only be used to explain what "tall" means to someone who had no idea what it meant.
