Heating?

Is it possible to use “heating discussion” instead of “heated” discussion? The frequently heard one is of course the latter. But I wonderful whether it’s okay to use the former.

No, not if you mean "a discussion that is vigorous and emotional". That would be a heated discussion. You can say that a discussion is heating up, that is, growing more heated. And, of course, if some HVAC techs are sitting around talking about ductwork ….
