Heard of no more

Hello there. I have a couple of questions regarding the following sentence:

Jerry and Dennis were heard of no more.

Q1 In the sentence, can we replace "of" with "about"? I mean, does the sentence "Jerry and Dennis were heard about no more" sound natural?

Q2 I guess that both "I've heard of Jerry and Dennis before" and "I've heard about Jerry and Dennis before" are natural. In this construction, if we can't use "about" in negative sentences, why does it happen?
