Hear good/well

Is there a difference if I say : I hear good or I hear well ?

I know that 'hear' is a linking verb and therefore I should use it with an adjective, but if I use it with an adverb will it still be correct as an action verb?

Hear is not a linking verb like be, seem , became etc. It's a verb of sensation (or perception), so it's necessary to use an adverb like well or clearly, not an adjective like good . I hear well .

  • Hear is not a linking verb like be, seem , became etc.

  • I hear well .
  • (not * I hear good ).
  • I can hear clearly (not * I can hear clear ) Nevertheless, you may well encounter speakers using the adjectives good or clear , but that use is best restricted to informal or colloquial speech.
