Headwear vs headgear

Hi,

(1) It looks like the word 'headwear' is a VERY formal (or SPECIALIST) term?

'Headwear' is absent in my longman.
It is not included in the online OALD and OAAD either...

(2) Could you please compare 'headgear' against 'headwear' for me?

(3) LIST#1:
  • headwear(?)
  • footwear
  • underwear
  • sportswear
  • swimwear
... PLEASE ADD MORE SAMPLES

LIST#2:
  • headgear
... PLEASE ADD MORE (word combinations such as 'camping gear', 'riot gear', 'rain gear' etc. should not be taken into consideration here!)

thanks in advance
