headscarf?

"Bans on the headscarf are lifted."

Why is it "the headscarf" and not "headscarves"? Does it refer to a whole category of headscarves?

Top answer

Yes, it refers to the concept, or class, of all (relevant) headscarves, in this case probably those headscarves the wearing of which has some kind of religious connotation.
