Headed/heading

Do these two words mean 'going'? As in:

I'm headed there.
I'm heading there.
I'm going there.

THANKS A BUNCH!

Should I avoid them in formal writing?

Hi,

It depends on the context in which you use them

The ship headed for Havana. Sounds fine to me.

Tom headed for the bar to get drunk. Sounds slightly more casual to me.
