Head Master vs Headmaster

Hi

Would you say both versions are OK?

Head Master
Headmaster

I always thought it was one word until today -- BBC English Dictionary writes in the entry of "sincere".

The Head Master is a man of deep conviction and sincerity.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Tom

I have never seen it as two words, and cannot find it as such in a reputable online dictionary. The Concise Oxford does not list it as a variant, either. Perhaps it is an oversight by the BBC editor.

So perhaps a rather dated and idiosyncratic usage.
