He was not used to run/running

Dear all,

Please see the sentence "The fat man was tired because he was not used to running so fast." I saw this sentence in a YouTube video. Could you please tell me why "running" is used here instead of "run"?

I'd like to ask you one more question. Please see the sentence "We are not used to doing these things in here." Would you tell me whether the word "in" is necessary in this sentence, please?

"Used to run" is "ran in the past". This "used" is "accustomed". The fat man was not accustomed to running so fast.
