Could you please tell me if these sentences are natural? Any suggestions are welcome.

He used the word terrible to mean very bad, not satisfactory.

He used the word terrible in the sense of very bad, not satisfactory.

He used the word terrible meaning very bad, not satisfactory.

Hello again Tom, They sound natural to me; but I would italicise "not" in all three, and insert a comma after "terrible" in the last. All the best, MrP

They sound natural to me; but I would italicise "not" in all three, and insert a comma after "terrible" in the last.
