He swam slowly

Dear esteemed teachers:

My book says that there is a slight difference between ""He swam slowly" and "He slowly swam."

Please help me understand.

The first can stand alone. The second is normally followed by an indication of where he was swimming, e.g, 'across the river'. There is no difference in meaning, however.
