Thanks, AStars.

In fact, I heard "speak through one's nose" in a film. I just wanted to confirm that "sing through one's nose" is also OK. Now it seems that some kind of gargantuan regional difference is involved.

I don't think that is physically possible.

Maybe so but, people do talk of others as if they do. They say things like "he speaks through his nose" or "she sings through her nose". They are just other ways of saying that someone sounds nasal when they speak or sing.

I went to an opera last night. The mouths of the singers were moving, not their noses.

I have to say, pace AS, that I don't find these unusual. I've heard these as idioms for saying that one produces a nasal tone when singing or speaking.

You can "sing through your nose", but you "lie through your teeth".

A little off-topic, but I was allowed to sit in on a few singing lessons that a friend of mine was taking when we were in college. There was a great deal of talk about the nose! It seems that there's a set of muscles in the back of the mouth that control the amount of air that goes through the nose and the amount that goes through the mouth. You get a different tone depending on how you set tho
