He/ she , was or were

i am writing academic papers can any clarify if i can use the verb 'was' when speaking in the third person h/she or is it better to use were?

Until you have a better command of the language, stick to 'he was' and 'she was'. There's a thing called the subjunctive, but I don't think you're quite ready for that yet. Rover

Until you have a better command of the language, stick to 'he was' and 'she was'.

There's a thing called the subjunctive, but I don't think you're quite ready for that yet.

well thank you for that Rover, i wish i were, i so wish i were , if only i were ready for that intellectual leap.

Im unschooled, and severly dyslexic/dyspraxic but as i am doing a Dphil at Oxford i am quite good at grasping complex ideas.

please, i would ask that for those of us who enquire afer the obvious, do no assume an intellectual impairment.

You can, and you should use was. He was. She was. It was. And so on. This covers 99.9% of the cases.

There are only a few exceptions. For example, use were for all persons in an if-clause when the ma
