He plays the piano.

He plays the piano.

Is plays the piano a verb phrase in which plays is the head of that phrase in the sentence above?

_______________________________________________

I'm asking about that as I've come across such an explanation regarding complements in phrases:

"Complements immediately follow the Head

In most phrases, the Complement must immediately follow the Head:

David [VP plays [Complement the piano] [Adjunct beautifully ]]"
