He missed his calling?

Hi,

Do you know when or why the expression "he missed his calling" is used? Here, calling does not refer to a phone call as far as I understand. I searched Google, and found some headlines in which this expression is used such as: "http://men.style.com/news/blog/2008/11/adam-kimmel-mis.html" and even "This Horse Missed His Calling" Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hello, hebenneka-- and welcome to English Forums. To miss one's calling is to fail to discover one's true career or life's work; it is often used jocularly. Calling = vocation, profession, or trade.
