I heard the expression in an American movie, He madmaxed the bus.
I know Madmax is a car acton movie that was very popular in the 80's, with a lot of scenes where the main character chases and smashes ememies cars.
I guess that means he smashed the the back of the bus in front of him.

I would like to know if average Americans, even those who have never watched the movie, understand the meaning of the expression.

I own the movie. It's a good one of its kind. You should watch it. Very Aussie, very indie, very young Mel Gibson. What exactly your movie speaker meant by "madmaxed" is not at all clear. Mad Max does various things throughout the movie.

"To madmax something" is not a known expression. I have never heard it before. It creates no specific image. It means to do something destructive to a thing, I guess. Most people have heard of Mad Max, I suppose. Some have taken to calling Mel Gibson "Mad Mel" since his rants went public.
