He knows not

"...and the Dark Lord knows not..."

Once I had seen it in the book called Harry Potter, I was quite taken aback by this grammar construction for a few seconds. The structure might be as I am wondering about it now associated with literary style. With this stuff I've come across like twice so far.

Not to mention, what I am thinking of the fact is why in the sentence wasn't normally used Dark lord doesn't know

I'd be thankful for your bit of explanation.
