He bet me at the breakfast that it would rain today.

Hi

Is this sentence natural?

He bet me at the breakfast that it would rain today. I won. Now, let's see if he gives me the money or not.

I'd like to know if it's clear to the reader that it did NOT rain.

Thanks,

Tom

It was immediately clear to me (before I read the final question). " "Or not" is optional.

Many thanks, Avangi!

So, according to AmE it should be:

I told you at dinner last night. [not the dinner]

Why was she constantly smiling at lunch today? [not the lunch]

Am I to understand that "the" would be used in BrE? Or is it odd to use the in both versions?

Hi, Tom,
I worked nights most of my life, so it's hard to change.

I meant to add that it seems like in military academies where they have formal dining, "I'll see you at dinner table" might be common. These things have a lot to do with tradition.

I'm not having much luck on the BrE usage question. Perhaps someone will come along.
