He behaved very bad on the field trip.

Are the first sentence correct? or it should be something like the second one?

He behaved very bad on the field trip. (Bad here can be an adverb, but in one source it was considered incorrect)

He behaved very badly.

While some dictionaries might indicate that "bad" can be an adverb, I'd strongly recommend that you use "badly" in your examples. He behaved (very) badly on the field trip. Also, I personally find the use of "very" before badly very grating!
