Grammar

He asked me how to cook the meal. -> He asked me how I should cook the meal.

1) Could you tell me what do now?
-> Could you tell me what I should do now?

) He asked me how to cook the meal.
-> He asked me how I should cook the meal.
-> He asked me how I could cook the meal.
-> He asked me how I cooked the meal.

My test books says that how. what, where, etc to do must change to how, what ,where, etc S should but I feel like sometimes can or could is more natural to be put ,so do you agree that 'how to cook the meal' means the same as 'how I should cook the meal'?
