Having trouble with understanding description of colors

Hello :-)

I'm reading an science article about ducks and there is a part about duck's appearance. There are lots of modifiers about colors and they are really confusing to me.

The following sentences are some of the confusing ones:

1. Chest is chestnut ventrally, mixed with (newly moulted) blackish grey feathers edged buff, breast chestnut but mottled with more (blackish grey) buff-edged feathers.
-> Does this mean newly molted feathers are blackish grey and that blackish grey feathers have buff color edge?

2. Scapulars brown grey edged buff.
-> Does this mean scapulars are brown grey and that brown grey feathers have buff edge? OR scapulars are buff and that buff feathers have brown grey edge? (the author also wrote this sentence, 'hindneck dark green with a bluish wash'. According to this, I guess the former one has more possibility...)

Thanks for reading and your comment will help me a lot :-)

englishforu 1. -> Does this mean newly molted feathers are blackish grey and that blackish grey feathers have buff color edge? 'Molt' means 'lose one's feathers', so the new, incoming feathers are blackish grey and have a buff edge color.
