Having realised

(1) "Having realised that you were going to be late, you should have phoned to change your appointment."

If we wanted to rewrite having realised, it would probably be like this, wouldn't it?
"Because you had realised that you were going to be late......."

(2) "Realising that you were going to be late......."
What would it mean if we wrote the sentence like this above?

And the rewrite of the sentence would be:
"Because you realised you were going to be late......."
