Having Problems With Prepositions

Hello everyone,

My mother language is Spanish. However, I've been studying English for years. I lived in the U.S. for a year and in Canada for another year. Despite all that, I still struggle with prepositions.

Today I was writing a blog post and I wasn't sure whether to write "incorporate it into my life" or "incorporate it in my life". I did a Google search with both queries surrounded in quotes and they yielded a similar number of results. My conclusion is that both are right, but I'm not sure.

I think I'm pretty good with most aspects of grammar, except prepositions.

What suggestions do you have to help me improve?

Thanks,
Joaquin

I am not 100% certain but I'd choose "incorporate it into my life" because I imagine whatever it is you're incorporating being inserted into your life. "incorporate it in my life" sounds like whatever it is you're incorporating is traveling to you life as to be in it. I travel to France and now I am IN France.

  • I think it is a philosophical question as both are applicable.
  • Do you view life as a closed box in which you can incorporate and insert stuff into it.

I also prefer "into".

I suspect that doing a lot of reading might help. Improvement won't be instantaneous, though. The acquisition of prepositions goes a bit more slowly than most students would like.

It was the perfect place for me to grow into who I am and take the belief system that I had and incorporate it into my life. (en.wikipedia.org)
