' ...HAVING --- LUCK...'

Hi friends, I don't understand the exact meaning of this expression on this paragraph I have read on Bob Dylan's Chronicles book: 'It was hard to sing- didn't seem to have the magic that the previous version had. I shrugged, COULDN'T GET IT, WAS HAVING PISS LUCK trying to cut this version.' Could someone explain it to me? Thanks in advance, Jo.

He was having bad luck recording the song. He couldn't get it = he couldn't do it successfully, he couldn't find a satisfactory way to perform it.
