Having lived

Having been living in Boston for two years now, I feel part of American culture, which I never thought I would say because I had been finding settling into the way of life here especially difficult. The people of Boston are wonderfully friendly, and this is exemplified above all when, on walking through town, an elderly woman smiled, and wished me good day; after which point she gave me a slice of her homemade apple pie she had cooling on her window box.

Yes, I prefer that to 'having been living' at the beginning of your paragraph.
