Having a full-back as an outlet

"You could see the unity between the Wales players, they are really comfortable playing with each other. They have a camaraderie, they are playing a normal game and they aren't phased by it. Jonny Williams is playing the ball nicely, and they always have a full-back as an outlet." (BBC Sport website.)

What does having a full-back as an outlet mean in that football lingo?

Top answer

I think it means that they have a full-back (or full-backs) capable of creating opportunities for the team. "phased" is an error for "fazed", by the way.
