Haven't versus "don't have"

I had been told me the following ages ago if I remember correctly.
  • Do you have something? (American)
  • Have you something? (British)
  • Have you got something? (colloquial)
Somehow I don’t say things like “I haven’t a car.” these days but I think I did learn to say that in school. Nowadays I say “I don’t have a car” or “I haven’t got a car” probably because that is not how people around me say has influenced me. Could you please tell me why the following "incorrect" one is regarded as wrong? Do you agree with their explanation? Please also comment whether the underlined above is grammatically correct.https://www.espressoenglish. net/correct-your-english-errors-fast/COMMON ENGLISH ERROR #1 – HAVEN’T / DON’T HAVEIncorrect: “I haven’t a car.” Correct: “I don’t have a car.”When HAVE is the main verb (meaning possession) we use don’t have and doesn’t have, for example: I don’t have any sisters. Bob doesn’t have a dog. When HAVE is the auxiliary verb (like in the present perfect), then we use haven’t and hasn’t, for example: I haven’t finished my work yet. Jane hasn’t taken the test.
