haven't left for work already?

Dear teachers,

I understand ALREADY used in the following situations:

Have you already gone to bed? It's still early!
Are you already buying X-mas gifts? It's only October now!

But what does ALREADY here mean?

Why haven't you left for work already?

Thank you in advance

Thank you Micawber, but Frankly speaking, I am confused about its meaning. If you say:Why haven't you left for work yet? , I understand. With already, it is very difficult to understand.

It is the same meaning; the speaker is merely a bit more frantic.
