have/has/were

Is the following sentences correct? and why please? Thank you tutor.

If I was/were there, I would have done that. Why do I have to put "were" instead of "was" because of "I?"

Don't Vincent has/have any homework? Why can't I put "has" in this sentence if "VIncent" is singular?
