"I have/had been very lucky this year that I got to see that thing."

Which has to be used in the above sentence 'have/had' ?

Please can you suggest me how should I write that sentence. I prefer to mention " this year" because I want to write few hours before this year ends..

I will change the meaning but I would use

"I must have been very unlucky this year......"

For eg :"I must have been very unlucky this year if it would not have been possible for me to dance/ to go there/to see you atleast once."

Is the above ok now?
