Have you or do you have?

Affirmative:I have a pen


Interrogative:Do you have a pen?

( why not have you a pen? Is it because when we use have for possession, it works like this?)


Affirmative:I have tried this


Interrogative: Have you tried this?

Have you a pen? is not incorrect, but it seems to be less and less used nowadays, especially in American English. Have you got a pen? is common in British English, though.

When 'have' means 'eat', 'drink' or something other than 'possess', 'do, does, did' is needed in questions:
