Have you ever been to/in...

Are both of these sentences correct?

- Have you ever been to England?

- Have you ever been in England?

is there any difference in meaning?

Thank you for your help.

Anonymous - Have you ever been in England? This one is wrong and obvious to native speakers that it is something that a non-native speaker said.

If you are asking if someone has ever visited England, then Have you ever been to England? is the natural question.

If you are asking about someone's presence in England at some time, then the other form is possible: Have you ever been in England in the early spring?
