Have the patience to

Are these sentences correct:

1- How many times do you have the patience to repeat this simple operation?
2-How many times do you have enough patience to repeat this simple operation?

Top answer

#1 is OK I suppose. #2 does not seem quite right. Being picky, this sentence structure seems slightly flawed to me.

  • "How many times" obviously applies to "repeat", but grammatically it appears to apply to "have the patience (to repeat)".
  • This is not quite right because "patience" is an enduring quality, not something that you evoke separately each time you perform the operation.
