Have studied or had studies?

Hello

I was proofreading a document and came across the following sentence,

"Erdogan and Fowler (2005) have studied the effect of aggregate shape and texture on rheological properties of concrete."

Would I be able to know whether it is best to use

Have studied

or

Had studied?

Thank you
