Have Started Or Started

Hello everyone,

Is either "have started" or "started" possible in the second sentence?

A. Have ever wanted to go back to Tokyo or Berlin?

B. Not really. I started/have started to feel that New York is my real home. And it really is now I've just bought my own department.

Say this.

A. Have you ever wanted to go back to Tokyo or Berlin?

B. Not really. I started/have started to feel that New York is my real home. And it really is now I've just bought my own apartment.

To use Simple Past, say I started to feel that New York was my real home.
