Have sometimes been known

Dolphins have sometimes been known to save the lives of drowning swimmers.

Here, I have not understood the position of the word sometimes. I would say as:

Dolphins have been known to sometimes save the lives of drowning swimmers.

Where else in the sentence can the word _ sometimes_ possibly go with the same sentence meaning?

BulbulTada Where else in the sentence can the word " sometimes " possibly go with the same sentence meaning? I suppose you could put it at the beginning or at the end, but it's fine where it is in the original sentence. All the others seem awkward to me.

  • I would never write "known to sometimes save" even though the original position of "sometimes" may not be optimal from the viewpoint of meaning or logic.
