Have Sb Make Sb else Doing Something

Setting 1): John had a bad cold and was coughing badly. But he still played outside all day, wouldn't take any rest. So, as a nosy neighbour, I thought to myself, "Mm~ I'm going to have John's mom make him take the medicine".

Setting 2): A mafia godfather is talking to a trembling jeweler, "Ouuu~I'm going to have my boy make your beautiful daughter dance for me as a favor."

Are these two sentences (highlighted in pink and blue) understandable? Do native speakers ever use such sentence pattern?

The thing is, I'm joining a Japanese study forum, where most of the members are English speakers, some of them are Japease though. The communication language is English. I post a question on "how to say the above two sentences in Japanese" (Because in Japanese grammar temorau <receiving favor> is a difficult concept to foreigners).

We were discussing fine until some members (English Speaking and Japanese) noticed I am not English native speaker, and they started attacking me, saying something like "what unnatural English you are using," "there is no such weird sentence in English, don't know what you are talking about, let alone turning them into Japanese..." Some even said the phrase "I thought to myself" is not a normal English. But I heard it quite often. Is it bad English?
