'Have purchased' VS 'purchased'

Hi,

Context: I am helping someone with an order placed on the internet. We can't find the order.

I say:

1. "Linda, is it possible you have purchased the item in a different account?"

2. "Linda, is it possible you purchased the item in a different account?"

Are both correct? I am going along with the present perfect "have purchased" because the purchase is still relevant to the problem. Is this correct?

Thank you.

"Have you purchased?" gives the impression that you're asking for an update on Linda's activities, as

Most of what we say has some relevance to the current moment, even things that are quite far in the past, so, unfortunately for learners, that doesn't always help us to decide whether to use the past or the present p
