have problems (in) V-ing

I wonder if the "in" is optional as in the following case

If you have problems in finding the hotel, please let me know.

If you have problems finding the hotel, please let me know.

In this sentence, [in] is not necessary.



If you have problems in [ finding the hotel] please let me know.



[finding the hotel] is a participle clause pertaining to the problem. Withour it the sentnce will be:

If you have problems, please let me know.
