have or had

When one thinks someone has travelled but unexpectedly sees him somewhere[:-O or Emotion: surprise] , how should he say the following ?

I thought you have travelled

or

I thought you had travelled

Top answer

I would say, "I thought you were travelling" or "I thought you had travelled overseas". "Travelled" by itself sounds incomplete to me. Maybe it's just me.

Hi,
I would say "I thought you have travelled" is not good, "I thought you had travelled" is not what you want to say. You want to say that someone is supposed to be travelling, on vacation, away, not here, but you see that person anyway.

Hey, I thought you were travelling!
Hey, I thought you were on a trip!

Wait for other opinions, though.
