Is this correct
I have nothing to do than/except wait for him.

Is 'but' possible or best?

I have nothing to do [ other than wait ] [ except to wait ] [ but wait ] for him. I prefer the last. I believe the 'to' in all three is optional, but probably better, in order to keep structures parallel.
