Have known/Has known.

Hello everyone.

Today we'd a little argument in English class over a silly question.
The question was [ Jack and Ben ___ each other since .. ]

There were 4 multiple choices, closest answers where have known and has known, Everyone wrote have known but then got surprised when they saw their marks cut; as the teacher corrected it as has known.
So what's the correct answer? Isn't it have known since they're 2?

I think the correct answer is "has known" because "he" has known Jack and "he" has known Ben other since...Oh, it's so difficult to explain. I hope you can understand it.

Jack (singular subject) has known Ben, and Ben (singular subject) has known Jack; Jack and Ben (plural subject) have known each other.
