Have it so much worse

People experience difficulties that they know are minor compared to the difficulties other people encounter: “what’s my unemployment compared to someone’s terminal illness?”

Please be careful with this. It’s good to take perspective on the size of suffering, for this might serve to open our compassion. But include yourself in the circle of compassion too. Often we use this insight in a self-punishing way. Not only am I unhappy, but I’m also a terrible person for being unhappy since others have it so much worse! Use this insight, but not to treat yourself as though you yourself don’t deserve kindness.

In this paragragh, does 'for being unhappy' mean who deserves being unhappy?

And I guess 'others have it so much worse' means others are much unhappier, do I understand it right?
