Have I missed anything?

Question

My server still doesn't carry mwsm, so I'm still stuck on using Google right now. I can't even recall the last time I posted here. I can see from the topic list on Google that the Ranting Jai Beast is conspicuously absent and no bad thing.
Still thinking about writing something; I have some ideas but I'm still lacking the discipline to effect them. I'm wondering whether it's a viable idea to just write something - anything - even rubbish, just to get into the rhythm, the writing groove. Maybe it won't actually be rubbish anyway. Maybe something vaguely non-crap will emerge from it, if I can manage to stop the lead character from morphing into Roger Moore, which is what kept happening last time.

Under no circumstances should you just write for the sake of writing. If you haven't got something you're passionate about, then read about writing. Don't write. Once you have the passionate ideas, write the **** out of yourself. But to anyone who says you need to constantly write just for the sake of writing: ***. I could write ten thousand pages of **** and not have any improvement in my skills as a writer. But if I write five passionate screenplays, each one better than the last, well, then I deserve to reward myself with some really expensive champagne. Cuz I definitely improved myself.

And to add to that, I think passion is a huge part of the equation when it comes to self improvement. Too many writers out there (especially those who think they're "screenwriters", which probably numbers in the millions) simply write story after story, script after script, without any fire behind it, just a bland generic belief that if you "put the right components together" you'll have a winner. Not by a long shot.

Write rubbish! I do it all the time, then I dump it on MWSM. (That'll teach them!) Then I forget about it and write some more rubbish... dump it again... and write some more... and... I'm great at rubbish. It's my *thing.*
Now I'm writing some rubbish that I won't post on MWSM because I want to staple together the many bits until eventually I can call it a "feature script." Then I can throw it away and paste together another one. It gives me something to do with my ScriptThing program (and it's not even illegal). My "thought" is, why drizzle rubbish down on MWSM when, if it gets heavy enough, you can chunk it it at someone else?
Write the **** rubbish! Then, eventually, put it between two brads and chunk it real hard at someone. The louder they scream the more fun it is!

I disagree. Writing anything anything at all begets more writing and hones the skill. Many writers advise wannabes to start their work session by writing a letter, or even scribbling pure gibberish, anything to get into the writing "mode." I know from experience that writing "rubbish" often produces good ideas and stimulates thought. (But, then, so does taking a shower or listening to music.) But if you don't write you can't be a writer. Waiting around for the passionate idea isn't going to allow you to express it when it comes. For that you'll need experience and writing skills.
