Have I correctly used 'in relation to,' 'acknowledged,' and 'by' in my sentences?


Mrs. Willis instructed her students to raise their hands if they had something to share with the class in relation to the subject matter. She moved closer to her students during recitation, acknowledged their responses by nodding, and gave them compliments by saying “Very good.”

Those are okay, but say "complimented them" instead of "gave them compliments".
