Have I constructed a correct sentence?

Hello friends,
Kindly tell me whether I'm making a correct sentence in the above:

I had been relieved from the organisation on account of personal reasons and took a break to take care of my grandmother from her sickness...

'relieved' makes it sound like you were in the army. Do you mean 'fired' or 'dismissed'?
