Have her to thank

She did what she had to do. She's still doing it. No one could fault her for that. I do what I have to do. I'm quiet. I'm cooperative. I try not to think about it too much. I'm here, aren't I? I have her to thank for that. What would be the alternative? And it could be worse. Nothing shows, as far as I know. If you have to be a monster, be a monster on the inside. It's easier that way, I think. People have even said I resemble her. I remember a man saying it, a landlord who dropped by the apartment unexpectedly, before she could make me disappear.
