Grammar

Have been / was going to

Hi native speakers of English,

I found these from the movie transcripts. Would you tell me which version you would mostly say or maybe you would say both ways?

1. Is it "have been" or "had been" here? I feel like it should be "had been"

A: Lets see the damage [~ they're looking at a fallen tree after the storm ]

B: Norton's tree

A: You mean the dead one I ___ been telling him to take down for three years before it blew over?

2. Which of the following B's answers is right?

A: Mom, why didn't you tell me about the house?

B : I've been waiting for the right time / I had been waiting for the right time / I was waiting for the right time? /

A: And when would that be?

Thanks

TN

1. Grammer in scripts can be difficult to assess at face value. The writer may have intent for the character to not necessarily be grammatically correct. That is assuming the actor cites the line as written. Sometimes actors may slightly alter the script upon shooting the scene. Having said that, "had" is correct.

2. "I had been..." and "I was..." are correct.
