'have been waiting' or 'was just waiting'

'Has been waiting' or 'was waiting': Which one should I use in the following context?

Suppose, my friend promised me he would call me this morning after reaching his but didn't call me at that time. He called me a few hours later. After getting his phone call, Can I reply 'I was just waiting for your phone call since morning, Have you reached home now?' Should I use 'was waiting' or 'have been' in my reply?

Can any native speaker please help me understand which tense is appropriate in the context?
