Does "I have been sick since last January" mean that I have been sick throughout the time from last January to now, or that I have been sick at least one time during that period?

2. I have been ill throughout the time from last January to now.

3. I have been ill at least once since last January.

In its #3 meaning, the original sentence might be used as a contradiction, with a stress on "have".
